What can you do to help?
Yielding Right-of-Way to Emergency Vehicles: 1. Red lights mean pull over and stop!
2. When Yielding, move to the right as far as possible, Remember, Fire trucks are big and bulky.
3. When a blue light is coming up behind you, state law does not require you to yield them the right-of-way, however, you should so that they can respond to the emergency in a safe, yet quick time. Remember, someone needs them, be it medical or fire reasons. So please allow them to pass.
Precautions to take:
Install
smoke detectors on every level of your home, especially near sleeping
areas.
Test
all smoke detectors monthly, and replace the batteries at least once a
year
Keep
smoke detectors clean by vacuuming over and around them regularly;
Like any electrical appliance smoke detectors wear-out. Replace
the entire unit after ten years of service or as recommended by the
manufacturer
Plan
and practice fire escape routes and make sure everyone knows two ways
out of every room
Use
safety plugs in electrical outlets, especially if you have small
children
Keep
a fire extinguisher in the kitchen
Use
proper home heating equipment
Remain
calm and evacuate quickly in your evacuation process
ONCE OUT - STAY OUT!
